Hello my Shannon K Family!

Technically I know this post should be my re-launch post but since the holidays are just around the corner, I wound up posting my holiday gift guide first.

But if you follow me on social media, then you know how I’ve never really blogged consistently. So I’m really excited about this re-launch and I wanted to share with you just what inspired this massive decision.

Why I Decided to Rebrand Pinterest

Blogging felt like a chore.

In hindsight, there was never any real incentive for me to sit down and write. Sure I used it as a form of procrastination, but it felt like pulling teeth. So then I found ways to procrastinate on blogging and the day would end with me accomplishing absolutely nothing.

Almost as if I was dumped onto a deserted island with all the tools needed to survive but no will to use them Click To Tweet

Consequently, I uploaded haphazardly written posts that had no real passion. As if I was back in high school again and I was forced to write an essay that I didn’t want to write.

So then what changed?

What made me come back and start blogging again? Well, why does anyone start something that they previously gave up on? They miss it. Well, I missed blogging. I just didn’t know it back then.

You see, I was just tired of trying so damn hard. My self-esteem plummeted and I found myself breaking down almost every day. I felt like something was wrong with me but I didn’t know how to fix it.

So I stopped. I put my blog on hiatus. Click To Tweet

I said “screw this” and wrote a short post declaring my hiatus because I just couldn’t deal with my blog anymore. It felt like a bad memory and I wanted it gone.

But as soon as I stopped trying to force myself to blog, a switch flipped and I felt that spark again. That is why I decided to rebrand.

What inspired me to rebrand my blog from a millennial lifestyle blog to a fandom/entertainment blog was actually a young girl named Alana King. She’s a college student who makes YouTube videos about Supernatural. If you haven’t guessed already, then I shall tell you that yes, I also thank Supernatural for inspiring me to start blogging again.

During my hiatus, I realized just how much certain TV shows and specific bands have impacted my life. Though I never outright declared myself a fangirl before, calculating how much I spent on concerts and fandom driven events sparked a lightbulb moment

Why not write about what I know and love? That is, attending concerts and participating in different fandoms? Click To Tweet

I know first hand the difficulty of fully expressing one’s fandom love. Either you can’t financially afford to don fandom merch or you feel too embarrassed to declare your love. Both reasons are valid but still, they shouldn’t stop you. It used to deter me, but no more! I’m not letting anything stop me from gushing about my beloved fandoms.

You shouldn’t eitherThere are reasons why you fell in love with the fandom that you did, so take pride in that!

why i decided to rebrand photoshoot

I know a rebrand typically means changing everything about one’s current identity – name, logo, colors etc. But I couldn’t bring myself to say goodbye to Shannon K. Not only do I have this domain name for another year but I also don’t want to confuse my viewers. I’ve been simplyxshannon on social media for so many years that I can’t even remember a time when I wasn’t. When I chose Shannon K as my blog name, I decided to forgo changing my social media since Shannon K doesn’t have quite the aesthetics that simplyxshannon does in terms of usernames.

I didn’t want to change my entire brand anyway. I simply wanted to change my content. I’m still the goofy and slightly irrational girl who loves to spontaneously go on day trips. I still love to explore try to be as genuine and transparent in my work as I can.

i write sins not tragedies why i decided to rebrand

The name reflects that since Shannon is my name and K is my middle initial. Simply Shannon is far too common and what exactly does Simply Shannon mean anyway? I didn’t like the vagueness.

But since my content is changing, my graphics and layout should reflect this, don’t you think?

Before rebranding, everything about my social media screamed wild child. My profile pictures and banners were brightly colored and ‘artsy’. I’ve now replaced this willy nilly and lackluster theme with a more passionate, intense one.

And since Supernatural has strongly influenced my life recently, I wanted to pay homage by using the Hunter's Journal as inspiration. Click To Tweet

I know, because of this, it may be somewhat confusing navigating this blog. If you’re not a Supernatural fan then you might not get the references throughout the blog. So to help all of my non-Supernatural fans, I’ve put together a lexicon. It explains each menu tab and the type of content found in each.

Of course, I continue to share my personal journey (this IS called Shannon K) with intentional living advice and genuine stories from my life. Most importantly, I want my blog to become a community.

The Lexicon why i decided to rebrand

Because we could all use some love and support no matter how self-confident we are. So if you want to join me in living life the fangirl way, I encourage you to join my Shannon K Family. That way, we can connect on a more personal level than on here or social media. If you enjoyed this post please share it with your friends by tweeting or pinning it.

  1. Woot woot congrats on the rebrand! I love that you allowed yourself to take a hiatus because you knew your blog wasn’t fulfilling you anymore I feel like so many bloggers force their blogs and it really shows in their content. Also happy that you were able to discover your true passions while being away for a bit!

  2. I re-branded a year ago and changed my whole site, pictures, content, domain name and even platforms. I wanted to start from scrach again just because I couldn’t find myself anymore. I wanted to change my content and thought I should change everything to go with it. It worked and I like it that way. I totally understand your point of view and hope you feel better with your new blog.
