sh… don’t bother me between the times 8pm and 10pm. I’m busy then.
Raise your hand if you’re excited for your favorite TV shows to come back?!! I definitely am. Actually, they all came back last week so I’m feeling a renewed vigor! My nighttime routine is back my friends!
With all of the midseason premieres still fresh in my mind, I started thinking – what makes a TV show binge-worthy?As you're waiting for your current TV shows to come back, how do you decide what TV show to binge watch next? Click To Tweet
Even though each show is different, they all share a similar formula in their desire to be a kickass binge-worthy TV show. So if you’re in need of some assistance, here are five ways to figure out what TV show to binge watch next.
1. How deeply do you want to think?
This may seem like an odd question to ask yourself but shows can be super intense with complex storylines. Sometimes that’s just too much to handle. After all, watching TV is considered to be an ‘escape from reality’ right? So why not just turn on some mindnumbing humor that requires no brain power right?
But everyone is different. Sometimes you don’t want an ‘escape from reality’. Even after a long and draining day, you may want to immerse yourself in a good complex, plot-twisting story.
2. How invested do you want to get in the characters?
Every show has characters that you love to hate and hate to love. So as you’re trying to decide what TV show to binge watch next, ask yourself, do you want to care about the characters?
Do you want to invest time in getting to know them or do you simply want to have them around?
There are a lot of TV shows with one-dimensional characters who exist only to serve as the comedy relief or as the antagonist. But if you just want to laugh for a few hours, a quick binge of a show like “Parks and Rec” or “The Office” may be what you’re looking for.
3. What kind of show are you looking for?
This question piggybacks off of the former question. When deciding what TV show to binge watch next, not only should you consider the characters, but you should also consider the what type of show you are looking for. You may be tempted to go “well duh!!” but it’s a viable and important question to ask yourself. Are you looking for a surface-level, simple, no substance show that you can use as white noise or are you looking for your next show to fangirl over? 4. How much time do you want to invest in the show?
We’re talking about the number of seasons and episodes in the show here. Depending on the TV show, it can make a huge difference because sometimes you can’t just start at an arbitrary episode. You would be extremely lost if you did.
That’s not the case when it comes to shows like “Friends” or “BigBang Theory”. So if you don’t have a lot of time, then choosing to binge a few episodes in such shows would be smarter than starting at the beginning of one with a complex and multi-character storyline.
But if you suddenly find yourself with more time on your hands than you know what to do with, then maybe now is the perfect time to start binge watching “that one show you’ve been meaning to watch”.
5. What’s your go to method of binge watching?
Finally, ask yourself: “where do you usually go to binge watch?”
Realistically, not every show is available to be binge watched. Unless you are subscribed to all of the video on demand services, your choices are actually unfortunately limited.
Some shows are only on Netflix.
Some shows are only on Hulu.
And some, you can only find on Amazon Prime.
So before you decide what TV show to binge watch next, make sure you can actually binge watch your choice.
